What makes a CA certificate professional-grade?
Under the ICAI Guidance Note on Reports or Certificates for Special Purposes, a certificate should identify the subject matter and the responsible party, state that the information is the responsibility of the person certified (management), describe the basis and documents examined, express the assertion clearly (for net worth, in figures and words with a statement of assets and liabilities), and carry a restriction-on-use paragraph, the CA’s signature with membership number and firm registration number, and a validly generated UDIN. This generator lays out those elements – you then edit and finalise them for the specific engagement.
How to use it
Choose the certificate type, fill the issuer and subject details, add the assets/liabilities or figures, list the documents you examined, insert the UDIN once generated, and download the Word file to finalise on your firm letterhead.
Common questions
Is this an ICAI-approved format?
No. There is no single statutory template. These are reference formats built around the ICAI Guidance Note elements; you must edit them to fit the facts and the authority’s requirements and issue under your own judgment with a UDIN.
Does the certificate need a UDIN?
Yes – UDIN is mandatory for certificates issued by a practising CA. Generate it on the ICAI UDIN portal and insert it before issuing.
What should I collect before certifying?
Obtain the client’s written request and declaration and the supporting documents. Use the linked Request & Declaration Letter generator for that.
