Find the right NIC 2008 code for your business – type what the business does and get the exact code with its official description, verified against the MoSPI classification. Covers all 21 sections and 88 divisions, plus the verified 5-digit sub-classes founders actually use in Udyam and company registration.
Which code goes where
SPICe+ / FiLLiP (company or LLP registration): asks only the 2-DIGIT DIVISION – the “main division of industrial activity”. One primary division is captured; the MoA objects can cover more activities.
Udyam (MSME registration): drills down to the 5-DIGIT SUB-CLASS – division, then class, then sub-class. You can add multiple activities (one primary plus secondary).

Beware of fake codes on lookup sites: Indian NIC 2008 has NO code 46900, 63120 or 95110 – India split those classes (use 46901/46909, 63121/63122, 95111/95112). Agarbatti is 20238, not 20294 (that is photographic film). This finder lists only codes verified against the official MoSPI publication.

Frequently asked questions
What is an NIC code and where is it used?
The National Industrial Classification (NIC) 2008 is the government activity-coding system. You quote it in SPICe+ or FiLLiP when incorporating (the 2-digit division), in Udyam MSME registration (the 5-digit sub-class), and it appears in company master data. Choosing a sensible code matters because banks, departments and buyers read it.
Which NIC code applies to an e-commerce seller?
Retail selling through the internet is 47912 (retail sale via e-commerce). B2B online wholesale is 46901. A marketplace platform itself (the website operator) leans to 63122 (web portals) with the trading codes as secondary where applicable.
Which NIC code for a software company?
Custom software development is 62011, web design 62012, software support 62013, IT consultancy 62020 – all under division 62, which is what SPICe+ takes. SaaS product companies commonly use 62011 with 63122 as secondary where the platform itself is the product.
Can I use more than one NIC code?
Udyam allows multiple activities (one primary plus secondary codes). SPICe+ captures a single main 2-digit division, but the MoA object clause can cover several related activities – align the main division with the dominant business.
Is there a cloud kitchen NIC code?
No dedicated sub-class exists. Cloud kitchens use 56101 (restaurants without bars) or 56102 (fast food and other food preparation) – 56102 is the closer fit for delivery-only kitchens. Both sit in division 56, food and beverage service.
