Why obtain a request & declaration letter before certifying?
Under the ICAI Guidance Note on Reports or Certificates for Special Purposes, the responsible party (your client) should acknowledge responsibility for the underlying information and give you written representations before you certify. A signed client request-cum-declaration fixes responsibility for the figures on the client, records the documents produced, and forms part of your working papers — useful for net worth, turnover, capital, fund-utilisation and similar certificates that later carry a UDIN.
How to use it
Pick the certificate type, fill the client and CA details, add the assets/liabilities or figures, list the documents furnished, and download the Word file. Have the client sign it on their letterhead and keep it on record before you issue the certificate.
Common questions
Is this the certificate itself?
No. This is the letter you take from the client requesting the certificate and declaring the facts. You issue the actual certificate (with UDIN) separately.
Does this letter need a UDIN?
No. UDIN is generated for the certificate you issue, not for the client’s request letter.
Can I edit the wording?
Yes. Download the Word file and adjust any clause to fit the specific engagement and the requirements of the authority the certificate is addressed to.
