Question
I am a commerce student deciding between the three. How do they differ?
Answer
All three are professional commerce qualifications, but they specialise differently: CA in accounting, audit and taxation; CMA in cost and management accounting; CS in corporate law and governance. CA, awarded by ICAI, is the broadest and most widely recognised, covering auditing, direct and indirect tax and financial reporting. CMA, awarded by ICMAI, focuses on costing, budgeting and performance management. CS, awarded by ICSI, centres on company law, board processes and compliance. There is no single best choice; it depends on your interests and the kind of work you want to do.
