I have read conflicting things. Under the new scheme, how long is the practical training?

Articleship (practical training) is now 2 years under the New Scheme, reduced from 3 years. You can start it after passing both groups of the Intermediate exam and completing the four-week ICITSS (IT and soft-skills) course. During the last part of the two years you may opt for 9 to 12 months of Industrial Training. Articled assistants are permitted 12 leaves per year, and ICAI prescribes minimum monthly stipends that vary by city population. Students who began under the old scheme continue with their original 3-year training period.
