Question
My turnover is growing and I am not sure when I am legally required to register for GST. What is the limit?
Answer
You must register once your aggregate turnover crosses Rs 40 lakh for goods or Rs 20 lakh for services in a financial year (in most states). In the special-category and North-Eastern states, the limit is lower at Rs 20 lakh for goods and Rs 10 lakh for services. Aggregate turnover is computed PAN-wide across India and includes taxable, exempt, export and inter-state supplies. Some businesses, for example those making inter-state supplies or liable under reverse charge, must register regardless of turnover. Work out the tax on your invoices with our GST calculator.
