Question
Section 80D FY 2026-27: mediclaim limits for self, parents and senior citizens
Answer
Bottom line: Section 80D allows up to ₹25,000 for your family and another ₹25,000 to ₹50,000 for parents — but only under the old regime.
1. Self and family
Deduction up to ₹25,000 for premium on self, spouse and dependent children; ₹50,000 if the eldest insured is a senior citizen.
2. Parents
An additional ₹25,000 for parents' premium, rising to ₹50,000 if they are senior citizens — so the maximum is ₹1,00,000.
3. Health check-up
Preventive check-ups up to ₹5,000 count within these limits. All of this is available only if you choose the old regime.
