EPF / PF Calculator

Project your Provident Fund corpus your way – choose the PF wage basis, the Rs 15,000 ceiling treatment and the EPS split. We present every recognised method and recommend none; the choice rests with you and your advisor.

Choose your method
Gross – HRA reflects the “universality” test.
Cap = employer’s statutory minimum (Rs 1,800).
EPS share is always on the Rs 15,000 ceiling.
PF is computed on Basic + Dearness Allowance.
Optional. Leave 0 if starting fresh.
Statutory 12%. Raise it to add VPF.
Statutory 12% (includes EPS share).
8.25% for FY 2025-26 (FY 2026-27 not yet notified).
On what wage should PF be deducted? Under Sec 2(b)(ii) of the EPF & MP Act 1952, “basic wages” include Basic + DA but expressly exclude HRA, overtime, bonus and commission. The Supreme Court (28-Feb-2019, RPFC West Bengal v. Vivekananda Vidyamandir) held that any allowance universally, uniformly and ordinarily paid to all employees also forms part of PF wages – which is why many consultants compute PF on Gross minus HRA (and minus other genuinely variable/excluded items). Employers are statutorily required to contribute only up to the Rs 15,000 wage ceiling; contributing on higher actual wages is permitted but voluntary. All three approaches above are in use. CalcGuru does not recommend any particular method – select the basis that fits your situation, and confirm with your payroll advisor before relying on the figures.

EPF Calculator — FAQs

What is the current EPF interest rate?
8.25% per annum for FY 2025-26, retained for the second year in a row. The rate is declared each year by EPFO; interest is accrued monthly and credited to your account once a year.

How much do I and my employer contribute?
You contribute 12% of Basic + DA. Your employer also contributes 12%, of which 8.33% (on wages up to the Rs 15,000 ceiling) goes to the pension fund (EPS) and the balance goes to your EPF.

What is the Rs 15,000 wage ceiling?
It is the statutory PF wage ceiling. The EPS (pension) share is capped at 8.33% of Rs 15,000 = Rs 1,250 a month. Some employers apply the ceiling to the EPF share too, while others contribute on actual Basic + DA – this calculator lets you choose.

Is EPF tax-free?
EPF enjoys EEE status if you complete 5 years of continuous service: the contribution qualifies under Section 80C and the interest and withdrawal are tax-free. Interest on your own contribution above Rs 2.5 lakh in a year is taxable.

When can I withdraw my EPF?
Normally at retirement (age 58), or after a set period of unemployment. Partial withdrawals are allowed earlier for specific needs such as housing, medical treatment or education.
